Geo Measure is a free map area calculator. Search for any location, click the corners of
the area you want to measure, and read the result in acres, hectares, square feet, square
meters, square miles, square kilometers or square yards. Draw lines for distances, circles
from a centre and an edge, and rectangles from two corners; every shape is listed in the
panel with its own measurement, and the map shows each segment's length and each area.
Drag any point to adjust a shape, use satellite view to trace property lines precisely,
share the map by link, and download the shapes as GeoJSON, KML or CSV. A free account
saves measurements for later.
How do I measure the area of land on a map?
Search for the location, then click each corner of the area on the map and click the first
point again to close it. The area shows on the shape and in the panel, and in Select & edit
you can drag any point, drag a midpoint to add one, or right-click a point to remove it.
How do I calculate the acreage of my property?
Switch the map to Satellite view so you can see the property, trace the boundary corner
by corner, and pick Acres in the units. The same measurement can be read
in hectares, square feet, square meters, square miles and more.
Can I measure distance instead of area?
Yes. Pick Line and click points along the route. The total length is shown
in miles, kilometers, meters, feet or yards, which works for running routes, fence lines
and driving distances. A circle takes a centre and an edge point and gives you a radius and
its area; a rectangle takes two corners.
Can I measure several areas on one map?
Yes. Draw as many polygons, lines and circles as you need. Each one is listed in the panel
with its measurement and colour, the totals are shown underneath, and Select & edit lets
you drag the corners of any shape.
How accurate are the measurements?
Areas and distances are computed geodesically on the same WGS84 Earth model that GPS and
Google Maps use, so the math is accurate at any latitude and scale. Practical accuracy
depends on how precisely you place the points: zoom in and use satellite view for
boundary-level precision.
Can I save, share or download my measurements?
Copy Link puts every shape in the page address, so anyone who opens the link sees the same
map, no account needed. Download gives you GeoJSON, KML for Google Earth, or a CSV of the
numbers; the .geomeasure file opens in the Geo Measure app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. With a
free account you can also save measurements and reopen them later.
Is there an app?
Yes. Geo Measure, on iPhone, iPad and Mac, measures area and distance on a map and saves each measurement as a document. Paid.
