Draw the lawn, the house and the driveway as separate shapes if you need each one; the total adds them up. The map shows satellite photos, not legal property lines.
The .geomeasure file opens in Geo Measure for iPhone, iPad and Mac, where your measurements live as documents.
An acreage calculator and property measurement tool. Find your land on a satellite map, click the corners of the boundary, and read its size in acres, with the same area in square feet and hectares. It works for a house lot, a yard, a farm field, a pasture or a parcel you are thinking of buying, in the browser on a computer or a phone. Draw as many shapes as you need, share them by link, or download them for Google Earth.
Search your address and zoom in until you can see the fence, hedge or edge that marks the boundary. Click each corner and click the first point again to close the shape. The panel shows the area in acres, square feet and hectares, and the perimeter. In Select & edit you can drag a corner, drag the middle of an edge to add a corner where the boundary bends, or right-click a corner to remove it.
An acre is 43,560 square feet, 4,046.86 square meters or 0.4047 hectares. A square acre is about 208.7 feet on each side. A quarter-acre lot is 10,890 square feet; an American football field with its end zones (360 by 160 feet) is 1.32 acres; a section of land is 640 acres, one square mile.
No. The map shows satellite photos, and legal boundaries are not drawn on them. Your deed, plat or survey records them, and many counties publish an online parcel map (search for your county's name and "GIS parcel viewer") where you can see your parcel's outline and trace it here. Fences, hedges and field edges are often close to the legal line, but not always on it.
The area is computed geodesically on the WGS84 model of the Earth that GPS uses, so it is exact for the corners you place. How close those corners are to the real boundary is the limit: zoom in as far as the imagery allows, and expect trees, roofs and shadows to hide some corners. That is good enough for planning fencing, sod, seed or fertilizer, pricing lawn care or snow removal, or checking the acreage in a listing. For a sale, a boundary dispute or a building permit you need a licensed surveyor.
Yes. Draw each field, lawn or building as its own shape; each is listed with its acreage, and the total of all of them is shown underneath in acres, square feet and hectares. To find the open lawn, measure the whole lot, then the house and the driveway, and subtract.
Copy Link puts every shape in the page address, so anyone who opens it sees the same map, no account needed. Download gives you KML for Google Earth, GeoJSON, or a CSV of the numbers. With an account you can also save measurements and reopen them later.
