Geo² is a set of map tools that run in your browser. Open one and use it: no download, no account, nothing to install.

The tools

  • Geo Measure — the area and distance of anything you outline on a map, in acres, hectares, square meters, miles or kilometers
  • Geo Elevation — the elevation profile along a path, with the chart tied to the map
  • Radius Map — a circle of any distance around a point, as many as you need, shared by link
  • Elevation Finder — the elevation of any address or point, several at once
  • Coordinate Converter — decimal degrees, DMS, DDM, UTM and MGRS, from a click on the map or a typed value
  • Plot Points — a pasted list of coordinates on a map, exported as GeoJSON
  • GPX Viewer — a GPX track on a map with its statistics and its elevation, heart rate and speed charts; drop the file on the page
  • GeoJSON Editor — draw, edit and share GeoJSON documents
  • Geo Marker — the coordinates of any place, in every format, copied with one click
  • Geo Tracker — GPS tracks recorded with the app, viewed on the web

The apps

Five of the tools are also apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, which keep your work as documents on the device. The paid ones are a one-time purchase, with no subscription. They are listed on the apps page, and each tool's Help says which app answers it.

How it works

  • The maps are Google Maps; the drawing and the arithmetic happen in your browser.
  • Elevations come from our own server: ASTER GDEM 30 m and Mapzen terrain tiles, two terabytes of them, read by open-source OpenTopoData.
  • What you draw stays in your browser unless you choose to keep it: an account (email or Google) saves measurements, elevation profiles, tracks and GeoJSON to My Data, and a share link publishes one of them at a short URL.
  • The radius, elevation finder, coordinate and plot tools need no account at all; their share links carry everything in the URL.
  • We use Google Analytics to see which tools are used and how; nothing you draw is sent to it. The whole account of what is kept is on the Privacy page; the rules are in the Terms of Use.

Who makes it

Geo² is made by ObjectGraph, a small software company that has made software since 2004 and apps for iPhone since the App Store opened in 2008: Geo Measure, Geo Elevation, GPX Explore, WorkoutGPX, iSeismometer and iRetroPhone among them. The apps are free where they can be, and your files stay on your device.
